The pocket gardens running in front of the residences, which have 5 ft ways, offer a green relief to the buildings from the roadway. The Emerald Hill Estate is unusual in that the landscaped areas are located within the road reserve, owned by the Singapore Government and plantings are selected, planted and maintained by the National Parks Board (NParks), at no cost to the owners. Plants are selected to be species that thrive well within the Singapore climate. For this reason, all planting in these areas is at the discretion of Nat Parks. If these landscaped areas are damaged during renovations, or by action of the owner / tenant, their replacement cost will be charged to the owner.

The Pocket Gardens are maintained as amenities of the Emerald Hill Estate for the enjoyment of both residents and visitors to the Estate. Many of the plant species are endemic to this part of Southeast Asia and reminiscent of the Nutmeg plantation that originally was located at Emerald Hill.
